Before John and I were ever a thing, I brought my dad to the Exposure, I wanted him to see it. There was a heifer there, GCC Sioux Steel 151W that was the best heifer at the sale, a large statement. I stood in her pen and tried to figure out with Dale Schilff how to buy her. She was a little out of our price range and we passed on her. After we were married that heifer went on to win the percentage show at the 2011 National Western. She had her fair share of banners, and wore plenty of purple before becoming a high profile donor. We haven’t discussed her in years, until a Boy Named Sioux came into the picture. PEDIGREE MATTERS, CONSISTENCY MATTERS, MATERNAL MATTERS, all of it passes down through the generations.
